Yu Sheng is customarily eaten during the Lunar New Year celebrations for prosperity and good luck. As each ingredient is added to this dish, an auspicious phrase it uttered which as great significance. We have intepreted the significance of each phrase for you.

OIL
Significance: Wishing you a happy and prosperous New Year

PLUM SAUCE
Significance: May you have a house full of treasures

PEPPER AND FIVE SPICES POWDER
Significance: May great fortune smile on you

RAW FISH
Significance: Wishing you surplus wealth

LIME
Significance: May you have good luck, success and prosperity

CRACKERS
Significance: Wishing you great abundance of gold

When you toss the ingredients to mix the dish, it is believed you shold toss as high as possible to ensure your wealth. The higher you toss, the greater the wealth.
