Shrove Tuesday @ WA

Shrove Tuesday @ Windsor Arms
Tuesday, 21 February
All day

Shrove Tuesday is the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, which is the first day of Lent. The reason that pancakes are associated with the day preceding Lent is that the 40 days of Lent form a period of liturgical fasting, during which only the plainest foods may be eatern. Therefore, rich ingredients such as eggs, milk and sugar are disposed of immediately prior to the commencement of the fast. Pancakes and doughnuts were therefore an efficent way of using these perishable goods besides providing a minor celebratory feast prior to the fast itself!

To commemorate this day, the Windsor Arms has a special 'live' station for pancakes, with a choice of different fillings; banana, mango or dark sweet cherries. All pancakes are served with vanilla ice-cream.
