 OUR COMMITMENT

To be the leading international club in Singapore with a British ambience, striving to exceed expectations of our Members and their families.

On top of Singapore’s second highest peak at Bukit Tinggi, you can enjoy first class leisure, sports and dining facilities set amid lush tropical greenery and flowering shrubs while looking down on the bustling life of the city just 10 minutes’ drive away.

New developments over the years continue to improve the Club’s facilities in sympathy with our rainforest surroundings, natural habitat for monkeys, squirrels and other jungle creatures. The four-storey main clubhouse is connected by a shady woodland walkway to a modern sports centre lower down the hill, while our cricket and football field lies at the bottom of the hill.

Registered in January 1983, we had 605 founding Members within six months, although it took a further three years to complete our clubhouse which was officially opened in 1987 by HRH Princess Anne. 2008 marked the Club’s 25th Anniversary.

The British Club is owned by our Members who, through an annually elected President and Main Committee, provide the strategic direction for the General Manager and his staff. Founded to meet the needs of the British community, the Club is also a favourite retreat for over 30 other nationalities and Singaporeans who together form nearly half the membership.

THE SOCIAL WHIRL
There’s always plenty going on at the Club – for the kids, for those with free time during the day, in the evenings and on the weekend.

Our adult social programme features themed and casual buffets and parties as well as wine appreciation evenings, formal dinner-dances, live bands, pub crawls, pub quizzes and competitions. Adults can also learn new skills including Asian cookery, Mandarin, quilt-making and other arts and crafts as well as local games such as Balut and Mahjong with the many workshops and classes offered by the Club.

We arrange a variety of fun activities for the kids such as Chinese brush painting, arts and crafts, dance workshops, summer sports camp, cookery and trips to local farms and places of interest.

And for the family, we hold carpet auctions and car boot sales and have a programme of cultural and historical tours around Singapore and Malaysia for those who want to know more about the festivals and events that are celebrated here. Our annual free Family Day fair is not-to-be-missed, and we celebrate all the major British and Asian holidays in traditional style.

AND FOR RELAXATION
For those who enjoy a good read, the Reading Room boasts a good selection of books for adults and is well-stocked with British as well as local magazines and newspapers, a haven for those who seek a quiet place to catch up on international news over a cup of tea or coffee.

Our Jackpot Room with 16 gaming machines is for the grown-ups only. Designed in accordance with Feng Shui principles, its gaming machines have been known to pay out thousands of dollars!

The indoor Mike Gorrie Playcentre, for children up to the age of seven, adjoins our poolside family restaurant and is kitted out with educational toys and games. Parents may leave children in the supervision of Club for up to 65 minutes so as to use the gym or participate in other on-site activities. For older kids, we have an Activity Hub.

DINE AS YOU PLEASE
In addition to traditional British fayre, our four dining outlets offer the best of continental and regional cuisine, wines from around the world, healthy options as well as such diverse food promotions as Vietnamese, Thai, Australian, German and Turkish.

The ideal family dining experience can be found in our open-plan Verandah Café overlooking the pool. This casual alfresco outlet offers an extensive mix of local and western dishes with kids’ own buffet bar. Adjoining the Café is our Verandah Terrace for more intimate candlelit dining to the exotic sounds and sights of the tropics. Members’ favourites at both these venues are the pizzas from our new wood-fired oven and the Indian menus from our speciality Tandoori kitchen. There are also regular ethnic and international buffets to be enjoyed here.

The Windsor serves pub grub favourites such as fish ‘n’ chips, bangers and mash and real ales. Live music, regular quiz and pub games nights keep the atmosphere buzzing, and on Saturday nights our weekly Sweep gives away credits, sometimes over $4000! At the Sports Centre overlooking the tennis courts, the Scores Sports Bar and Restaurant has full meals, healthy options and takeaways. And, for sunbathers and swimmers we have a Poolside Bar offering icecream, soft drinks, snacks and even a beer or glass of wine.

Our fine dining restaurant, The Mountbatten Room is open for dinner only and features a modern European menu and its very own wine cellar (over 600 bottles) whilst retaining some of the old Mountbatten specialities. With amazing views offered from the second floor, dinner becomes more than a meal at this restaurant. The restaurant was included in the Wine & Dine Top Singapore Restaurants Guide 2008.

FIRST CLASS SERVICE
We cater for a wide range of functions at our newly renovated indoor banquet and seminar rooms, the poolside terrace, or our spectacular rooftop garden, and also at outside venues. Our professional Banquet team can arrange such business, social and family functions as training seminars, board meetings, company events, dinners, celebrations, weddings and kids’ parties, and our outside catering service features our excellent North Indian Food. All our packages are competitively priced, offer great value and can be tailored to your specific requirements.

PASSPORT TO THE WORLD
When you join the British Club you also gain privileged access to a host of top class clubs worldwide. We have reciprocal arrangements with over 50 clubs in Asia, the United States, Australia, New Zealand and Europe.

During your holiday and business travels you will be welcome to visit, use their facilities, dine and even, in the case of some clubs, find accommodation. If you are entertaining business associates away from home, how better to impress than by taking them to a premier local establishment! Our associates even include the Singapore Executives’ Club in the central business district, if you have a need for downtown entertainment and dining.

MAINTAINING HIGH STANDARDS
The dedicated management team works closely with the Main Committee of elected Members to ensure that the needs and wishes of Members are met. In order to maintain the highest standards in our service, we implement an extensive people development programme including service quality, self-directed teams, cross-functional training, better English classes and ‘managing change’ adventure training. Our on-going efforts in staff training received recognition from Singapore’s Public Service Board in 2003.

We like to see our Members in the Club but when they’re away we keep in touch through a monthly magazine, special mailings, weekly email broadcast and up-to-the-minute website. Members may communicate by phone or email and even check their account details on the website. Comments are valued to achieve improvements in service and we conduct a membership survey every two years, hold focus group discussion sessions and put out feedback forms throughout the Club as well as provide an email contact point. Our in-house Training Manager devises courses to build on skills and remedy any problem areas identified through Members’ feedback as well as a ‘mystery shopper’ programme.

THE SPORTING LIFE
We provide facilities and opportunities for you to enjoy a wide range of on-site and off-site sports. Whether you want to play in a league, learn a new sport, keep fit, or just make new friends over a social game, our sports staff will soon get you started. You can also enjoy live telecasts of international games on our widescreen TVs, and we have a dedicated Billiards Room with two ex-championship Riley snooker tables.

Sunbathe at the poolside, relax in the Jacuzzi, or swim in the 25-metre, 6-lane pool where we have classes for babes through to adults, inter-club competitive swimming, water aerobics and other aqua activities. Alongside the main pool are a children’s splash pool and an outdoor sheltered playground.

The Club’s purpose-built Sports Centre has four squash courts, four floodlit tennis courts, a spacious gymnasium equipped with both cardiovascular and toning equipment, and an aerobics/dance studio. In 2008 it underwent some major renovations and added a luxurious Spa to its facilities. Off-site, Members take part in shooting, scuba diving, golf and lawn bowls as well as annual Club trips to the Malaysian Grand Prix and Hong Kong Sevens, and, our football and cricket pitches, just two minutes’ drive away, are fully kitted out with practice nets. At the neighbouring Canadian School, we have use of their indoor hall for a wide range of sports such as martial arts, badminton, basketball, volleyball and in-line skating.

Trained Club staff, assisted by external coaches, conduct a range of fitness classes for all ages including martial arts and aqua activities as well as swimming, tennis, cricket and other sports training. Visiting celebrities have also led lucky Members in exhibition games and sports clinics. Peter Nicol, Matts Wilander, Henri Leconte, John Barnes, Sir Bobby Charlton, Pat Cash and, in 2005, David Beckham, Sven-Goran Eriksson, Daley Thompson and Ade Adepitan have all enjoyed the warm hospitality of the British Club and given us the benefit of their skills.
